Copyright, another opinion

I checked with a good friend of mine who is a textile designer and has worked as a college professor in the field. This is her response:
"This is a tricky question. Many books have been published with photos of those tablecloths for reference and I'm not sure how those authors got permission to use the images. But then they are shown in that venue for info purposes and not to be reused for another purpose. There are many books available that discuss copyrights and the use of other's work within your work. I think the greater question is if the companies are still in business that produced the cloths then it would be a definite NO but then if out of business did some other company buy it or the stock? Many questions..."
